Melissa Urist’s 1,500HP Coyote ’Stang Is Back In Action!

It’s been a little over a year since we last heard from Melissa Urist and her twin-turbocharged Coyote S550 Mustang [1]. Her and her husband John Urist, owner of New Mexico-based go-fast supplier Hellion Power Systems [2], have been quite busy over the last year. Melissa wears many hats – she’s a wife, a parent, a student, and an avid drag racer – and her Coyote-powered sixth-gen Mustang has just crossed over the 1,500 rear-wheel-horsepower threshold in the video above brought to us by 1320video [3].

The last time we checked in with Melissa more than a year ago, her S550 Mustang was making just over 1,416 horsepower at the rear wheels with a Hellion Eliminator twin-turbo system. At that time, she was running a pair of Precision [4] 64mm turbochargers, so what has changed now?

Melissa was competing in the Street Racer class at the Street Car Takeover event out in Denver, Colorado, running consistently into the eights all night. When asked by 1320video what was new with the combo, Melissa said, “I plead the fifth.”

While she did exclaim that her twin-turbo 2015 Mustang has a built rearend and is now rocking a Powerglide automatic transmission, the new combo seems to be working quite well. If you’ll recall, Melissa’s S550 Mustang is a full-weight street car. It still sports factory amenities, like the air conditioning and a full interior, including Sync and touchscreen navigation features.

For a car that we can only guess weighs more than 4,000 pounds with a factory-displacement, 302 cubic-inch V8 with two turbos, this car is down right impressive to say the least.
