Mike Brown Preparing For 2016 Return After Devastating Memphis Crash

Brown 1

This new blank slate will fit Brown’s needs for 2016.

After coming off a very successful 2014 racing season, Mike Brown was set to have a huge 2015 campaign. But a horrific accident at the Outlaw Street Car Reunion II in Memphis totaled his ERL-powered Pontiac and ended his season before it even truly began. Now, Brown is back with a 2012 model Camaro that may be a rolling chassis currently, but soon will be a thoroughbred race car for radial tire battle.

Brown’s racing career has been full of ups and downs that range from championships to incidents that would stop most racers for good; but Brown is not most racers. The Ohio Boys Racing team co-captain has always bounced back from adversity in a big way and that could spell serious trouble for his competition in the near future.

The-fifth generation Camaro that Brown will be starting with has a 25.3-spec chassis already installed along with a RaceCraft front end, Santhuff shocks, Strange Brakes, and tons of other killer parts. The car will need a new rear suspension setup, and one of Brown’s key sponsors, Midwest Chassis, will take on that challenge. A fabricated 9-inch rear end from Midwest will be going in the car along with other custom suspension parts, all aiding in the mission of shaving weight off the car.

Brown’s Pontiac was a total loss as a result of the Memphis wreck.

ERL Performance is building a new engine combination that’s being kept under tight wraps, but will be set up to make some big power. Providing the boost will be a pair of 88mm Garret turbos plumbed into the turbo kit provided with the shell that Brown is modifying to fit his parts. A Turbo 400 unit from RPM Transmissions will be used to put the power down from the ERL powerplant.

Right now, Brown is waiting to see what the final rules packages will be, but the plan is to run Outlaw 275, Outlaw Drag Radial, and Limited Drag Radial at various events. If the rules allow, Brown is talking with Patrick Barnhill of PTP Performance about making the switch to alcohol for his fuel.

Look for Brown to debut this amazing ride later in 2016 with the goal of being a serious player again in the radial racing world.
