Some accomplishments in motorsports are so astounding they are never forgotten, and I believe it’s safe to say that a twin turbo door slammer running in the 5’s at over 250 mph fits into this category. World renowned as the first 5 second Turbo Pro Mod, Mike Moran and his Monte Carlo are known to be one of the best combinations out there. So much success has been made with this car you would wonder, why change a thing with such a proven combination?
Cars do get old and taste can change over time, so perhaps Moran is ready to move on to something different as his ever-so-successful Monte Carlo was spotted for sale on RacingJunk this week.

This leaves many of us race fans with a big question mark as no official announcements were made as to what Moran is planning for the future. With a builder like Moran turning wrenches we can be sure that it will be a force to be reckoned with.
The only thing the ad announces for certain is that a new car is coming, and his current motor that was used in it is for sale as well. While he does build other manufacturer combinations, Moran has long been one of the most famed Chevy engine builders. While rumors have floated around that he is building anything from a Chevy Nova to a modern Corvette, I would think it’s safe to say that even if the car is not GM itself, the powerplant will be GM-based.
For now all we can do is wait and speculate, to see what eventually rolls out of Moran’s shop. Could we see a 5 second Corvette soon? Moran won’t tell us what he’s doing, but we are sure he has something interesting up his sleeve.
