Mike Murillo Impressive In SCSN Outlaw 10.5 Victory

SCT Performance-backed racer Mike Murillo put a bookend on another impressive campaign on Sunday evening at the Street Car Super Nationals in Las Vegas, scoring a decisive victory in the hotly contested Outlaw 10.5 division at one of the premier heads-up doorslammer races in the nation.

Murillo, who entered Las Vegas just a little over a month removed from securing his second straight NMCA Super Street 10.5W championship — preceded a week earlier by the capture of his his second straight NMRA Pro Outlaw 10.5W title — downed Richard Klann in the final round under the lights of The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, just a short drive from the entertainment capital of the world. The veteran racer from San Antonio, Texas edged Klann on both ends of the race track, 6.71 to a 7.05.

Earlier in the weekend, Murillo had let it all hang out in his twin-turbocharged, SCT Performance ’93 Fox body Mustang, running the quickest elapsed time of his accomplished driving career during qualifying at 6.354-seconds at a screaming 235.39 mph to qualify second behind West coast runner Doug Sikora.

In eliminations, Murillo was not only quick, but he was consistently quick, and that can be a deadly combination if you’re in the other lane.

The SCT Performance Mustang laid down the second quickest elapsed time of the opening round in a defeat of Brian Macy’s Camaro, 6.41 to 7.85 and followed it up two rounds later with a 6.40-second rout of Eric Halverson, who was right there with a game 6.61. Murillomade his best run of eliminations in a semifinal victory over Dave Rogers at 6.393-seconds.

All told, Murillo scored five victories on the season to go along with his pair of repeat championships. He also closed the year with the national record in both the NMCA and the NMRA.
