At the season-ending NMRA World Finals last month in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Pro Outlaw 10.5 title challenger and former champion Mike Murillo could only watch as opponent Conrad Scarry blasted into the record books with a new national record of 6.57-seconds before proceeding to walk through eliminations to earn the title and defeat him handily in the money round.
But you can’t keep a champion down for long, and Murillo has already made steady progress toward regaining his supremacy in the class before the offseason even kicks into gear, earning the Street Car Super Nationals title last weekend against some stiff competition with some stellar performances. But over the holiday weekend, Mike made possibly his biggest statement yet at the Clash of the Titans Outlaw Streetcar Nationals at San Antonio Raceway, powering his SCT Flash-backed Mustang through the boards in 6.539 seconds at 221.86 MPH. The incrementals on the run were 1.129, 2.92, and 4.32 at 176 MPH to half track with a set of true 88mm turbochargers – the very same combination run in the NMRA. Mike then proved that pass was the real deal, following up the personal best with a 6.71 at a well off-pace 176 MPH and a 6.563 at 219.73 MPH. If these amped-up numbers are any indication, look out for the SCT team in 2011.
