MMR Debuting Second Coyote-Powered Pro Mod At NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl

Modular Motorsports Racing (MMR) already laid down the first three-second pass by a Ford Coyote-based engine when they lit the boards at Bradenton Motorsports Park with a 3.87-second run. Now, Mark Luton and the gang at MMR are ready to unleash another Coyote-powered monster on the world to be campaigned in the Pro Mod ranks. This sleek new Mustang will be making its debut at the NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl Of Street Legal Drag Racing later this week with Greg Seth-Hunter behind the wheel.

MMR has been a running in Pro Mod for a few seasons and done well, but according to Luton they’re ready to step things up now with their team.

“Both Greg and myself have always been big fans of running in Pro Mod, so we decided we would both run it this year. We saw some benefits, such as double the data, double the testing, and double the exposure.”

The new car is a Jerry Haas Race Cars-built chassis paired with a sleek 2016 Mustang body as its skin, and will be rocking a shade of factory Ford orange paint. Just like their silver car, this new one will be powered by a 351 cubic-inch MMR Billet Gen X Coyote motor. Inside the billet MMR block is one of their custom billet cranks, forged aluminum rods, and Manley pistons. A set of factory GT350 cylinder heads received some porting work and have been pressed into service to help the motor breathe. Providing the boost is a pair of Garrett GTX4718 turbos through a custom MMR built turbo kit. Rounding out the engine is a full line of MMR billet timing components, while a Rossler TH400 transmission backs the mill.

After the Super Bowl this new Mustang will hit the remaining NMCA races and some PDRA races, as well. Luton says he and his team are ready to make some more noise with this new car and hope to reset their own record.

“The Gen X engine is proving to be one of the best small blocks out there — we have already run as quick as 3.87 at 199 mph, making it the fastest Ford-based drag race engine with factory bore centers. The MMR team is optimistic that this number will fall further as the year continues.”
