Modular Mustang Racing is proud to show off one of their recent builds—the very popular GT500 Alloy Block.  The block is available for all 5.4 shortblocks and longblocks and will fit factory motor mounts from 2005 to present;  adapters can be purchased to fit 1996 to 2004 models.

Modular Mustang Racing says that the block is “pricey,” but saves over 100 pounds, and is the strongest 5.4L block currently available.  The block’s features include a different sized main oil galley and freeze plugs, coated aluminum bore (rather than the steel cylinder liner), improved oil drain back holes to prevent starvation at high RPM, and no more piston squirters.

They start with the Ford Racing 5.4.  This block can’t be machined, due to its cylinder coating, but Ford has put the effort in, and the blocks are said to be 100% perfect as they sit from the factory.

ARP main studs are included on this MMR block, a standard on many of the builder’s products.  Bearings for the 5.4 are a Clevite heat treated bearing, treated with Royal Purple assembly lube (another MMR standard), for that critical initial start-up.

The forged crank is cleaned, inspected, and lowered into the block, where main caps are installed.  The ARP studs are lubed up with the recommended ARP moly lube, and torque according to ARP specifications.

Next up are rods and pistons.  Modular Mustang Racing has chosen the Manley billet rods and forged pistons featuring the ceramic dome coating and clear anodizing for hardness, saying they’ve found them to be the “best in…the business.”  Strong piston pins (made from 9310 tool steel) and heat treated Clevite bearings round out the package.  Total seal rings are used, and the pistons go in, one by one.

Lastly, the engine is rotated, and the rod caps and ARP 2000 bolts are installed and torque according to ARP specs.
