[4]NHRA: Event coverage recap on DRAGZINE [2] – Second-generation Pro Stock ace Vincent Nobile edged fellow young gun Dave Connolly – in just his second start this season – in a spectacular final round in which Connolly was second off the starting line with an .011 reaction time. At the stripe, Nobile’s 6.595 was just enough to outrun Connolly’s right-there 6.604. Morgan Lucas, off to the hottest start of his career, qualified atop the Top Fuel field and marched his way through eliminations, where he claimed his second victory of the season over new points leader Antron Brown. Mike Neff kept the unbeaten streak alive for John Force Racing in Funny Car, defeating a slowing Ron Capps in the money round. Also remaining unbeaten were the Vance & Hines Harley Davidson’s despite carrying an extra 20 pounds of lead per recent rule changes. Andrew Hines left nothing on the table in the final, nailing a perfect .000 light that Hector Arana Jr. – who ran a quicker 6.886 – simply couldn’t recover from. And in Pro Modified, No. 3 qualifier Danny Rowe ran a great 5.96 to turn away Kenny Lang in the final round for his first win of the season. [7]NHRA Division 3: Jared Dreher collected the opening round of the NHRA North Central division Lucas Oil series in Top Alcohol Dragster at the Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis on Sunday, recording a 5.55 in the final round as opponent Ken Perry had engine troubles and slowed. Dreher was joined by perennial favorite Frank Manzo, who qualified No. 1 and ran 5.75 – his slowest pass of the weekend – in the final to defeat a slowing Brian Harvanek. Competition Eliminator champ David Billingsley and foe Bo Butner were both dead late in the final round, but it was Billingsley’s quicker -0.545 under the index pass that made the difference in a race decided by just 15 inches. [9]IHRA Division 9: Greg Slack was first off the starting line and closest to the dial in the Top Dragster final at the IHRA Pro-Am Raiders Division 9 event at the Rockingham Dragway on Sunday, earning him his first class title over Joe Flynn. In Top Sportsman, Don Rudd benefited from a foul start by Tim Lawrence to claim class honors. The Stock Eliminator final was worth the price of admission, as P.W. Hilling put together a .005 light and a 6.23 on a 6.20 dial, while opponent Terry Taylor was second off the line but closer to the target. [11]PSCA: Mike Maggio recorded a great 6.04 in the Pro Street finale to the claim the PSCA Las Vegas Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday. Maggio defeated a slowing Rod Burbage. Matt Rhoades earned the win in Outlaw 10.5, defeating Gary Soulages in the final, 7.12 to an off-pace 16.60. Rich Hoyle’s 4.88 was enough to down Allen Stewart’s 5.09 in Extreme Drag Radial, and Jason Kenzevich ran a 5.67 to edge out DJ Reid’s 5.69 in Outlaw 8.5.
[12]MIRock: Mac McAdams defeated Ryan Schnitz in the Pro Mod final at the MIRock Fast by Gast Spring Nationals at Maryland International Raceway on Sunday, running a 4.16 to a right-there 4.24 aided by a huge holeshot by Schnitz. In Pro Street, Joey Gladstone cranked out a 7.00 in the money round to easily defeat a slowing Rodney Williford, and Johnny Dobrin edged David Merks in a tight 7.88 to 7.93 Real Street finale.
