Far too often the tale of drag strips is that they’re fading away, never to be raced on again for many reasons varying from deteriorating conditions, budget constraints, or even when the locals of the area don’t have the same passion for the sport that we do. Luckily for us this isn’t another one of those stories however, as last year when Hurricane City, Utah signed the approval for a zoning change allowing a drag strip to be built there, many started scrambling to get the ball rolling on this massive project.
For a name, they went with something representitive of the mountainous terrain, dubbing the track’s name Red Hills Raceway. For more info and to follow the build progress you can check out more of their construction photos at RedHillsRaceway.com.
Though typically legislation hasn’t favored the sport of drag racing, Hurricane City Mayor Tom Hirschi is glad to see this dream coming true, becoming a firm believer that it’ll bring much needed business and jobs to the area, which help immensely in this tough economy – the track is already putting many people to work with the construction. While the track is far from finished, currently we’ve been told they’re anticipating the grand opening by the time late spring is rolling around this year, shortly thereafter the schedules and events will begin to be posted on their website. From the looks of it they’ll also have a forum for anyone looking to inquire about information or just express their comments on the race track and its events – more or less an online racer hangout.
For more questions or comments feel free to get in touch with their Public Relations director Shawn Bevers at 702-355-3670, or one of the many other track officials listed on their website. It’s cool to see the sport is growing and we can’t wait to hear the engines roaring in Southern Utah when the racing kicks off.
