On the eve of the NHRA’s most prestigious drag race, the Chevrolet Performance NHRA U.S. Nationals, series officials have unveiled the 2014 Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule, which will again feature 24 events and will include a return to racing on Memorial Day weekend. The NHRA will also celebrate two important milestones in the sport in 2014, as the organization will commemorate the 60th anniversary of the U.S. Nationals at Indianapolis on Labor Day weekend, August 27 to September 1, as well as the 50th anniversary of the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals in Pomona, the series’ season-ending race, November 13-16.
The NHRA has on tap a number of activities, events, and promotions that will surround these two important milestone anniversary races.
The 2014 Mello Yello Drag Racing Series will make all of the traditional stops on what is the most geographically dispersed touring series schedule in motorsports, beginning and ending with the NHRA Winternationals and the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif. In between, the series will return to the Phoenix market and the newly renamed Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park for the second event of the season, followed by the traditional east coast opener at the Amalie Oil NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla.
In May, teams will set off on a grueling summer stretch that includes 11 races in 14 weeks, beginning at the Summit Racing Equipment Southern Nationals in Atlanta on May 16-18, followed by the NHRA Kansas Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka in the series’ return to racing on Memorial Day weekend.
The Western Swing will again kick off at the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals in Denver on July 18-20, followed by stops in Sonoma, Calif. and Seattle, Wash.
The Chevrolet Performance NHRA U.S. Nationals will again serve as the last race in the Mello Yello Series regular season, with the final spots being determined in the NHRA Countdown to the Championship. The six Countdown races will include Charlotte, Dallas, St. Louis, Reading, Pa., Las Vegas, and Pomona, and will feature the Pro Stock Motorcycle division at all six events.
