Nitrous Grudge Mustang Takes Flight At Huge Orlando No-Time Race

flightLast weekend, those race fans who didn’t make the annual pilgrimage to Indy for the PRI show headed south for sunny skies and some smokin’ hot No-Time racing at Orlando Speedworld. The grudge event, dubbed No Guts, No Glory, certainly lived up to that moniker based on this video clip, brought to us by Hans at Free Life Films.

For those out there who are familiar with no-time racing, let us catch you up to speed.

This genre, which is growing at a freakishly fast rate across the southeast and beyond, takes away the scoreboards and ET’s and leaves the racers with one goal: turn on the win light. It’s generally accepted that most of the cars who race bring similar setups to the starting line – small block cars on 28 x 10.5’s race other small block cars on 28’s, for example – though there are exceptions. The teams negotiate stipulations, sometimes quite vocally, such as one car staging with the back tires to give them a small head start, or one of the drivers has to leave by watching the other car launch, again giving a small head start to the car that is believed to be the slower of the two.

Then, of course, there’s the betting. Betting between “camps”, the crew and fans who came to the race with each car, can soar into the tens of thousands of dollars. Fans and spectators often wager from $5 to $100 on each race, meaning the potential is there to make, or lose, a LOT of money over the course of the weekend.

Then, the cars line up and race. No ET’s, no records to break, just get to the finish line first at all costs. As you can see in this video, sometimes the drive to win ramps up the pucker factor. Of course, the driver of the white Mustang, Matthew “Skinny Man” Mungall, would have preferred to keep the nose of the car earth-bound and given the Memphis Gangster a run for his money, but the fans and trackside media sure had a huge reaction to the insane wheelstand! We can’t wait to see more of these huge No-Time events in 2015 and beyond!
