The Woodburn Dragstrip in Woodburn, Oregon holds the distinction of the fastest track in the state of Oregon. The track is a host for the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, as well as the NHRA “King of the Track” in late September and many other events throughout the year. Recently however, Woodburn Dragstrip was inundated with water. During the week of January 16th, the only passes down this west coast track would’ve been in a row boat.
In a three day span, rainfall pounded the state of Oregon. From January 17th through the 20th, the state received enough rain to represent over 80 percent of the monthly total. The track has been dried out, and damage was almost nonexistent. The most damage to come from this was all of the comedians that are out of work. Several hilarious comments coming from the Facebook community, such as bass boat races, paddle tires, and a popular favorite,”looks like the tide is in.”
With the track coming out unscathed from the flooding, it should be business as usual for the Sunday, March 4th for Test and Tune. The first major event of the season is the 39th annual Baxter Auto Parts/ BI-Mart Season Opener on May 19th and 20th. This event will feature Top Alcohol Dragsters, AA/Supercharged, Pro Nostalgia and NHRA classes. Track operators and workers certainly have and will continue to work their tails off to get the track back in top shape and we’re sure the local racers, spectators and all the attendees of future events know that they have top notch host at Woodburn.
The forecasted rainfall this week isn’t expected to be as torrential as it was earlier this month, although it’s sure to create plenty of troubles with the already saturated grounds in Oregon. Hopefully this time, Woodburn Drag Strip can keep their head above water.
