Home of some of the most memorable street car drag racing events ever, Orlando Speedworld Dragway has new owners, Ozzy and Maria Moya, who have spent all winter and untold sums of money improving the facility. We’ve been watching their Facebook page, checking out some of the changes they’ve made, and must say that the additions and improvements are long overdue and will be very well-received by Florida racers and those who travel in from other areas of the country. Not only have they made an effort to improve the track surface by grinding it completely flat, removing the troublesome dips, bumps and humps that racers have complained about for years, but they’re in the process of renovating all of the bathrooms and the overall facility to make it more attractive for racers to attend their events.
The team has put together a solid schedule of drag racing events including their Summit Racing Bracket Weekend scheduled for this weekend, March 23rd and 24th, and they’ve also got a number of other events scheduled for this year including the return of the World Street Nationals on the first weekend of November. Their 1320X Midnight Madness program takes place on April 20th, offers $10 admission, and a chance to race on the track from 9PM to 1AM. It’s designed for street cars and street bikes only, and awards will be given in a multitude of categories to the top contenders.
Friday Night Frenzy takes place on April 5th and is designed to get street racers off the street and onto the track, and offers a low $12 general admission along with a super-cheap $10 tech card for racers – it’s a great way to get the family to the dragstrip for the evening, and who doesn’t want a chance to compete on the legendary OSW racing surface? We look forward to following the rest of the improvements that Ozzy and Maria make and expect a quick return to greatness for the legendary facility.
