Outlaw Drag Radial On The Cusp Of 4.0s With Pro Torque On Board

The Outlaw Street Car Reunion: Battle of the States event that took place this past weekend at Memphis International Raceway [2] showed a number of things – that eighth-mile racing is alive and well, and that our friends at Pro Torque are on the edge of development in the insane Outlaw Drag Radial class.

Pro_Torque_Logo [3]How so, you ask? Well, take into account that many of the top performances of the weekend were achieved with Pro Torque torque converters onboard. Kevin Mullins topped the ladder with a 4.11 with Rob Valden just behind him at 4.12. DeWayne Mills clicking off a 4.19, and Keith Berry’s LSX ‘Vette in the mix also at 4.20 to place Pro Torque in the bellhousing of four of the top five qualifiers. Berry subsequently ran a 4.14 in the semifinal to better his qualifying number. Those are eighth-mile times, achieved on a drag radial, of all things – no monster 10.5W meats here.

“ProTorque has led the way in drag radial racing for the last several years and we have no plan on slowing down now. The next generation of product is faster, quicker, better, and smoother, which will allow these cars to reach their full potential. In all fairness it’s also about the good jobs the tracks have done in preparation and that preparation allowing these racers to put the power to the ground,” says Pro Torque’s main man, Joe Rivera, Jr.

In addition, X275 racers Shane Fisher, Brad Medlock and Charles Hull are using the Pro Torque Gen X converter, and all three racers achieved new personal bests in X275 this past weekend, with Fisher’s 4.519 at 158.74MPH the quickest pass the class has seen to date, anywhere, and he’s reset that record at nearly every single race he’s attended with the Pro Torque equipment onboard. Interestingly, all three of these X275 cars are tuned by none other than legendary radial racer John Kolivas. Perhaps Kolivas learned something running a Pro Torque converter for the last few years?
