A lot can happen in five and a half seconds, from buzzer beater three-pointers in basketball or a last-minute field goal to seal a victory on the gridiron. In the case of Paul Mouhayet and MOITS Racing, they’ve changed the outlook of door car racing on the entire continent of Australia, and they did it in just 5.58 seconds.
Mouhayet, who has made plenty of passes in his Tim McAmis Race Cars-built Ford Mustang, unloaded the first ‘full pull’ on Australian soil with a new door car record of a 5.584 at 261.67 mph at the Sydney Dragway over the weekend. Mouhayet made three 1/8-mile hits to check things out and make sure everything was functional and working properly after the trip from the United States to Australia. During a huge country-wide test session for all of the racers in the Australian region, Paul and the entire MOITS team clicked off pass after pass with their two twin turbo race cars, including the new Australian door car record.
One of the special things about this trip was that Mouhayet invited his engine builder, Pro Line Racing and owner Eric Dillard, over the pond to help the team achieve new goals. Accompanying Dillard were some of the top tuning minds in the world, including Steve Petty, Jamie Miller, Josh Ledford, and Brandon Stroud. Mouhayet has relied upon Pro Line Racing horsepower along with a set of Precision Turbo turbochargers to set world and national records for the past two seasons, including previous stints as the world’s fastest doorslammer, holding the MPH record across the world at 274.33 mph before Troy Coughlin reclaimed the title in Las Vegas last fall.
MOITS Racing team didn’t stop there, though, as along with their Pro Modified entry, they also had their well-known 10.5-inch tire car out making some laps, as well. Combining Mouhayet’s driving skills with the tuning prowess of Steve Petty behind the laptop (and cool air conditions), the potential for big numbers was in the air once again. Mouhayet turned loose of the Pro Line-powered Mustang and had a hand full of the steering wheel as he kept the loud pedal pinned, straightened the car out and blasted through the quarter-mile to a 5.86-second shot at 255 mph to record the quickest and fastest pass ever on 10.5W slicks.
As the weekend wrapped up, it came with a price, as Paul was making one final lap in the Pro Modified entry to see if he could lower the bar any more. After posting a 5.61 on the scoreboard, the parachutes blossomed but the car made a hard right hand turn and plowed into the right side concrete barrier, causing extensive damage to the car. The good news is that Paul walked away from the crash uninjured, but told us he was quite sore the day after the accident. We hope to see the MOITS team rebuilding that car soon and coming back out for more records in the near future!
