Australia’s Pro Mod racing scene has exploded over the past few years with some insane runs and features drivers who are some of the best wheelmen in the world. Paul Mouhayet is one of the top Australian drivers and has smashed a few records (both in Australia and the United States) and he just added another to his resume at Sydney Dragway. Behind the wheel of the Motis Racing Mustang Mouhayet shredded the Pro Slammer/Top Doorslammer record in spectacular fashion.
The previous Australian record was held by Australian door car legend John Zappia with an impressive 5.63-second lap. Mouhayet began testing last weekend and nearly eclipsed that mark himself before the Motis team turned the wick up and let the Mustang eat. With a release of the transbrake Mouhayet rocketed into the history books with a booming 5.585-second pass at over 257 mph to become the quickest man in Pro Slammer/Top Doorslammer racing.
The combination inside the Jerry Bickel-built Mustang that provides the power is a screw-blown 520 cubic-inch Pro Line Racing Engines-built monster. Billy Stocklin provides the tuning for the car that uses a five-speed Liberty transmission and torque converter to put the power down. According to Mouhayet, everything came together at the right time to lay down the record pass.
“The conditions and track here are terrific so that allowed us to put the power down. We also have made improvements to our engine program which are proving to yield us the results we have hoped for.”
