Christopher Wright and the team at Pro Car Associates have been helping racers make big power through their full service engine development operation, but now they’re ready to bring out a little something of their own. Pro Car has teamed up with Race Car Specialties to create a slick 2016 Ford Mustang Pro Modified machine that will be seeing action in 2017. This car will be radically different than most in the Pro Mod category due to the engine that will be under the hood. You’ll be able to see this wild new car when it hits the track soon in the PDRA right here on SpeedVideo.com.

Wright has an extensive background in both engine and electronics development. He not only builds cars for the drag strip, he also supports ECC Motorsports with their Trans Am Series car as the head of engine calibration. All of that experience has helped spur on the advanced systems that are going into this Mustang.

According to Wright, the car has been a joint effort with Joe Peters of Race Car Specialties. “Joe and his shop built the chassis and then we here at Pro Car Associates are doing all the engine development along with the electronics in the car. We’re going to use some of our new nitrous control devices in this car for development. We plan on running the car in the PDRA and also want to hit other big outlaw events as our schedule allows in 2017.”

What will make the car a bit different than most Pro Mods you see in the lanes this year is the engine package the team is using.

“It will start the season using a 740 cubic-inch Chevrolet-based, two-valve nitrous motor with a unique setup of throttle bodies. Later in the year, we’ll switch to our 500 cubic-inch Chevy-based four-valve engine that will use our own cylinder head design. After we have finished the development of our nitrous controller electronics the plan is to go to a twin-turbo setup,” Wright says.

The sleek 2016 Mustang body is one of the first in the United States to be finished. The body won’t be using a hood scoop to bring air into the motor due to the different type of throttle body setup Wright has added to the car. Driving duties will be handled by Arabian Drag Racing League veteran Rubin Llaons for the 2017 season.

The engine changes won’t be the only thing going on with the Pro Car Associates and Race Car Specialties team this year. “After we get this car where we want it and the development done it will actually be sold. We’ve had a few people ask about buying it and as soon as we get the next car built, this one will be gone,” Wright says.

If you want to see this nitrous-huffing Mustang make its debut passes at the PDRA’s East Coast Nationals make sure you tune into SpeedVideo.com right here for all the action when it kicks off at GALOT Motorsports Park March 31- April 1st.  This broadcast will be brought to you by Chassis Engineering, Jerry Bickel Race Cars, Edelbrock, and ATI Performance.
