This past weekend at Beech Bend Raceway in Kentucky, the inaugural season of the reborn Outlaw Street Car Association came to a successful close. The OSCA was once e a popular and prominent series in the Indiana and Kentucky area in the late 1990‘s through early 2000‘s, so if the acronym sounds familiar – that’s why. The series, very successful during its time, faded away in the mid 2000’s. Gone, but not forgotten, the racing association was rejuvenated by Jason Lancaster and the help of a few others along the way.
The enthusiasm and support surrounding the regeneration of the Outlaw Street Car Association has grown beyond expectations as 2013 has progressed. John Sanders, a pillar in the reconstruction of the series shares, “All of the challenges this year have forged the OSCA into a better organization, no doubt. The first year we made waves and established some momentum. All of our benchmark class numbers were exceeded, our points battles in all the classes came down to the last race to clinch, and down to the wire in half of those.”
And the optimism for next year is already growing.
“Next year we ‘re going to continue making some noise and will leave a bigger footprint on the racing landscape,” says Sanders.
Lancaster shares, “With the help of Bill Lutz, we added Outlaw Pro Mods to the final race of the season. Dallas and Clay [Jones] at Beech Bend gave us as good of a surface to race on as any track in the South, and the last race of the season was off the charts. The final race saw a 200 MPH pass by Bill Lutz and Marty Stinnett going a 4.46 at 173 MPH in Outlaw Drag Radial trim.”
In addition to Pro Modified, the other classes that were contested at the season finale included Pro Street, True Street, Xtreme 8.5, Entry 8.5, 6.50 and 7.50 Index, and Junior Dragsters. Also a first for the series, the addition of Pro Bracket, was also run as part of the program.
Under overcast skies on a fall Kentucky day, racing got down to business as the season finale of the Outlaw Street Car Association commenced. And saying the racing was exciting doesn’t really describe the day with justice, as the afternoon was filled with bumper-draggin’, wheels-up excitement right from the get-go.
