Racing Rivals Game Offers Realistic Street Racing Action

We recently were invited by Nitto Tire and Cie Games to checkout the latest racing game to be released for iOS devices Racing Rivals. This feature rich game offers some exciting features that aren’t found in the ordinary mobile device racing platform.

Racing Rivals features some of the best graphics we’ve seen in one of these games to date, the cars look beautiful, and the racing background is even well detailed. The background itself is set to look like a closed street in a downtown urban environment, giving each race the feel of street racing.

Players can compete against the computer, or head to head against live opponents around the world, and in real time. This is done through various tracks, which work kind of like a racing chat room. There’s also racing chat, so racers can discuss events, and you can even watch replays of races that just happened, further adding to the feeling that you’re at the races.

When challenged by another racer, you have a few options, you can either race, bet, or chicken out. Since players progress through the game by earning money from racing to buy new cars or upgrade their own, the stakes are higher than just a typical race, if you really want to step things up though, try racing for pinks, that is if you’re willing to put your car on the line.

Modifications to the cars can be made to upgrade their performance, and users can buy new cars from the showroom as they earn money. There’s over 40 cars currently in the game and more cars coming in the future according to Cie’s CEO Dennis Suggs who was on hand giving us pointers on the game and talking about it’s features. Suggs says they really worked to make Racing Rivals as realistic as possible, even the modifications to the cars are sensitive, like in the real world often the parts that make cars go faster will require those cars to be serviced more often.

Participants were able to try their skills on Irwindale's drag strip in the Edelbrock Mustang, with guidance from Street Outlaw racer, and eight time SSO champ John Urist.

We spent the day at the launch party at Irwindale Speedway with representatives from Nitto tires, Cie Games, Edelbrock, and NMRA Street Outlaw super star, John Urist. Edelbrock brought out their E-Force supercharged 2011 Mustang GT, and Urist played track coach for those in attendance who’d never been down the track. There were two contests at the event, best reaction time, and a double elimination gaming tournament where those in attendance raced head to head. Nitto also bought admission for the first 100 racers through the gate for Thursday’s test n tune session that evening.

Under the Nitto awning a tournament took place with participants racing head to head in the new Cie Games Racing Rivals game.

We spent a lot of time with the Cie staff as well learning the ins and outs of Racing Rivals, trying different cars and even racing against players from around the world, including some of Cie’s developers.

As far as the contests, at the end of the day it was our StangTV editor Don Creason grabbing the best reaction time in the Edelbrock Mustang with a .106, and Mark Manansala of KOLAB winning the gaming tournament after taking out Creason in the semi-finals. For the best RT win Creason took home a new iPad mini with Racing Rivals already loaded, and Manansala the grand prize winner walked away with a Nitto Championship ring, and a set of new Nitto tires of his choosing, which he says will be going on his recently purchased Miata.

Overall we had a blast checking out Racing Rivals, and know how we’ll be killing boredom in our downtime. Check out Racing Rivals in the App Store it’s free to download and get started playing, and we’d like to thank Nitto Tire, Cie Games, Edelbrock, John Urist, and Irwindale Speedway for their hospitality during this event.
