Drag racing is a motorsport that is full of history and colorful characters that reach back to the very beginnings in the 1950’s. Legends like Sox & Martin, Jungle Jim, and “Big Daddy” helped lay the foundation for the current stars of the quarter mile. Certainly one of the biggest names in nitro racing was Don “The Snake” Prudhomme, a man who struck fear into the hearts of those who raced him and who’s still a fan favorite today. Prudhomme won in virtually everything he drove and then went on to become an equally successful team owner. And if you happen to be a fan, you can own a piece of history with an already-iconic Funny Car that was owned by Prudhomme and driven by none other than current superstar Ron Capps.
The Prudhomme and Capps partnership began in 1997 after Capps experienced quick success behind the wheel of Roger Primm’s Top Fuel dragster. While driving for Prudhomme, Capps racked up 13 national event wins and became a fan favorite in the process. Capps later moved to his current home at Don Schumacher Racing where he continues to be a player in the class.
The car available for sale was piloted by Capps during his rookie season running for Prudhomme and wears the classic Copenhagen colors. This very car was the first flopper to exceed 315 mph in the quarter mile in Houston in 1997. The Z-28 bodied car comes with a fully functioning, nitro-drinking Hemi and the equipment needed to start the car so you can impress your friends and scare your neighbors. The car does not come with a driveshaft so there won’t be any trips made down the quarter-mile…at least not right out of the box. All of this along with some autographed items from Capps and Prudhomme can be yours for a relatively cool $85,000.
