Growing up as a car guy or gal there’s a good chance that you played with Hot Wheels cars.  Maybe you just pushed them around making race car noises, or reenacted your favorite racing moment from television shows or movies, but as the years progressed playing with toys turned into helping wrench on other cars, and then eventually your own ride. But those who recall their toys often have that one fantasy build– of which many Hot Wheels cars were — that was brewing in every gear head’s mind. That one build if you won the lottery that you would dump exorbitant amounts of money into to make a reality. 

Well, Paul Sykora did just that, building a 1937 Ford Coupe that’s very much a fantasy car and created a real life Hot Wheels-esque car that is equal parts radical and beautiful.

Producing a car of this caliber is no easy task at all and even though this car has seen more street duty than track duty, that didn’t keep Paul from filling it with top shelf parts fit for an all-out race car. The first thing that jumps out is the big supercharged powerplant that looks like it would be right at home in a six- second Pro Mod. The engine is a 540 cubic inch Big Block Chevy-based engine with a Lunati crank, connecting rods, and Wiseco pistons filling the cylinders. Up top, Dart Big M heads have a beefy BDS 16:71 supercharger, custom intake, and a chromed-out Enderle bug catcher strapped on to build the 28 pounds of boost.

Taking all the abuse is a Jeffco billet four-speed transmission and Bull Racing two-disc clutch.  Paul used a Moser Engineering rear end with 40-spline axles in the rear in case he ever decided to let the coupe eat at the track. To keep things rolling, Weld Racing wheels were used at all four corners and beefy Wilwood four-piston calipers bring the car to a stop.

All of that power is strapped into a 6.00 certified chromoly chassis built at The Race Car Factory. Inside the coupe you’ll find fully functioning power windows, A/C, and a 1500 watt stereo. Autometer gauges tell you the cars vitals as you are strapped into the ostrich covered seats and surrounded by tons of chrome.

This stunning car won the 2007 Designer award from Hot Wheels for good reason, as it really is the total package.
