Reborn Memphis International Raceway And The IHRA Make It Official

In a bit of news that’s already been widely known for many weeks now, the International Hot Rod Association made official today its new multi-year sanctioning agreement with the newly renamed Memphis International Raceway with plans already in place to add a Feld Motor Sports IHRA Nitro Jam event to the schedule in the near future.

“It’s great that our investor group stepped in and decided to purchase the Memphis facility,” Rittenberry said. “We know that there’s a lot of work that needs to go into renovations, but I’m confident that it can be done and the facility will reopen in time for the 2011 season. We’ll get the right people in place and re-establish the facility in the racing industry.”

The Memphis facility was recently acquired by a purchasing group instrumental in the recent success of the Palm Beach International Raceway in Florida, led by Michael and Gil Dezer of Team Dezer Racing, managing partner Joe Lubeck and visionary Jason Rittenberry, President and CEO. The new ownership hopes to have the facility staffed and prepared in time to open for the 2011 racing season in April. Several of the experienced team members that were part of the Memphis Motorsports Park operation will return to the management team.

The new owners are working diligently to compile a schedule of national and regional events for the 2011 season. Prior to the tracks closing in 2009, it hosted major events conducted by the ADRL, NMCA, and the Super Chevy Show.
