RJ Race Cars Celebrates 30 Years In Business

RJ Race Cars has been churning out some of the fastest cars to ever grace the drag strip for 30 years. In those three decades, the business that Rick Jones started in his garage has grown from building race cars under the RJ Race Cars banner, to now include the Quarter-Max brand that supplies racers with the world-class parts they need to finish building a racecar and more. Jones’ dedication to quality and desire to do what’s right for the racer has been the fuel that has helped to grow the RJ Race Cars and Quarter-Max brands.

RJ Race Cars began after Jones decided that his 1969 Camaro wasn’t fast enough and needed some work done to the chassis. Over the years, he was able to turn what began as a 12-second car into a nine-second car with a slew of modifications he did himself. According to Rickie Jones, his father’s hard work led to the start of the business. “People at the track noticed the work he was doing and asked him to start doing stuff for the. With the blessing of my mother he made the jump to doing the work full-time. From those humble beginnings the company grew.”

Since Jones founded the company in 1987, it has steadily grown and been housed in five different locations, now residing in a 30,000 square-foot facility with 25 employees that houses the chassis shop and Quarter-Max. Developing the ability over the years to do everything under one roof has been a point of pride for Jones and the company. “Being able to manufacture all the parts for cars we build in-house on either our CNC machines or Waterjet machine makes us unique. If we need to design a part or do R&D it’s great to have that ability for our customers,” Jones explains.

That drive to be unique and build top level cars has led RJ Race Cars to have customers to an untold number of records, victories, and championship over those three decades. “Looking back over the years there have been so many customers with so many big wins and huge moments. Warren Johnson and Erica Enders in Pro Stock, Stevie Jackson setting the radial tire record, dad tuning a car that won the U.S. Nationals, and me winning with dad as my crew chief are just a few of the big ones for us,” Jones says.

Don’t think that any of this success that RJ Race Cars and Quarter-Max have experienced over the past 30 years is going to make Jones and his team complacent, though, as they’re poised to keep pushing forward into the future. “We plan on continuing to build high-quality racecars so our customers can keep winning championships. Another big part of our future is the Quarter-Max mail order division we have. All the cars we build use parts from Quarter-Max and are made in-house. This brand was started in 1999 with parts we made for cars, and now we’re a distributor for over 80 companies, so we’re able to help racers get the parts they need quickly,” Jones explains.
