Amazingly enough, across the pond over in Australia folks enjoy their drag racing just as much if not more than we do here – with a limited amount of racing facilities, and scorching hot weather, organizing an event can be a handful. Enter Rob Campisi (Campo) who’s been campaigning his Twin Turbo ‘Stang in Australia for quite some time, formerly with a small block Ford, he has recently made the switch to a big block 632 cubic inch monster.
With the old 400″ SBF, Campo was able to pickup a personal best of 6.64 last November – you can read about the 6.64 run here. Just last off season however, work commenced to swap in an all-new 632” Big Block, which has recently brought Campo’s car down the quarter mile in a mere 6.49 seconds at 222 mph, besting his previous best by far. Check out the video of the pass from Youtube below-
As stout as these runs on a fairly new combo are, many are believing Australia could get a taste of a 5-second turbo car in the near future if Campo gets the car figured out as well as he has done in the past. The 222mph trap speed may lead you to believe he’s squeezing the last bit out of the combo the way it sits, though he’s running a conservative 25lbs of boost until Campo and crew feels confident enough to crank it up and let her rip. The engine was built to run at its best somewhere around 45 PSI, rough guesstimates would likely give Campo another 400-500 horsepower to play with once an extra 20 PSI is forced in the big block.
Surely this is one sweet pass from a sweet looking car – undoubtedly we’ll hear more about this one in the future. Are the 5’s a reasonable expectation from this beast?
