Drag racing has truly evolved into a global sport with killer race cars putting up insane numbers pretty much everywhere. For a while the title of quickest import was held over in the UAE by EKanoo Racing’s 2JZ powered Supra, but over the weekend that crown took a boat trip to the land down under.
Rod Harvey and his 2JZ-powered Celica laid down the quickest and fastest import pass ever with a 6.12 at over 238 MPH in Brisbane, Australia.
Harvey, a New Zealand native, has been a giant in the import racing scene for many years. Over the past decade Harvey has broken and owned many track records all over Australia with his high-winding rides, and along the way he’s also racked up an enormous amount of round wins and enough hardware to impress anyone.
The record pass of 6.12 was made in Harvey’s RJ Race Cars-built 2004 Toyota Celica. A cast iron 3.2-liter 2JZ block filled with a billet crank, JE Pistons, and GRP Rods motivated the car on its record pass. Dumping the boost into the engine is a Gen2 Precision Pro Mod turbo that slams the power through a Lenco four-speed transmission.
The incrementals for this pass were very stout with a 1.026 sixty-foot, and the car getting to the eighth-mile in 4.05-seconds at over 186 MPH. That’s moving for a car that has less than 200 cubic inches under the hood!
With a billet block currently being tested do you think Harvey can be the first import to crash into the five-second zone, or will EKanoo turn the wick up and get there first?
