Other than the fact that they’ve got wheels, an engine, and we love to watch ’em run down the track, NHRA Funny Cars and the world’s most elite Door-slammers in the ADRL have pretty much nothing in common, that is, until we noticed an ADRL decal adorning Pedregon’s Chevy Impala Funny Car. All in all, it’s just a sticker and could be a mere indication that the ADRL is trying to reach out to a similar fan-base, but ADRL’s Agent 660 is hinting pretty heavily that there’s more news to come from the Pedregon camp in regards to envolvement with ADRL. What started off as a rendering nabbed off the photocopier at ADRL headquarters in O’Fallon, MO, has quickly turned into a slew of rumors hinting that the past-NHRA Champ Pedregon is seeking a future in driving door-slammers. With car counts slipping in some ADRL classes, some look at this possibility of a new car in the field as something positive, though there seem to be some mixed emotions around the idea.
Given the NHRA’s grueling schedule that Pedregon has to work with, it’s doubtful we’ll see him in a door car this year when most ADRL events overlap NHRA ones with the exception of the August race at Gateway and the finals at the Texas Motorplex. Could the more affordable door-slammer heads up racing be appealing in hard economic times, or is someone just looking for a change? T. Pedregon and the ADRL have kept their lips sealed thus far, but expect some sort of announcement or development soon. The longer the silence, the more our minds wander..
