Fans and racers love to dream up a racecar in their mind, or gaze at a car and fantasize what it might look like in full drag racing trim. Pennsylvania native Harry Anderson, the owner of Profast Performance, did just that by taking one of his favorite style Mustangs and turning it into the full-blown racecar.
Anderson’s 2004 Saleen-themed Outlaw 10.5 Mustang looks just like the original production version, but with massive amounts of boosted power under the hood.
The Saleen Mustangs are certifiable icons in the automotive enthusiast world, and have been something Anderson has enjoyed over the years. “I owned a 1989 Saleen SSC #65 in white with the yellow, and I always loved the 2004 Saleen Mustang Style. The color combination that I chose for this car has a different and classy look,” Anderson says.
Anderson actually began his racing career on two wheels, before making the jump to the world of door cars. “I started drag racing in the 1980s with a Kawasaki turbo drag bike, running with the IHRA. The bike was pretty quick — it would run in the low eights at 165 mph on a small tire. I decided to move to cars in 1990, and started tuning EFI in 1992,” Anderson explains.
The Saleen that Anderson will be taking into the Outlaw 10.5 class is loaded with some of the best parts on the market, and is based on a Joey Martin Race Cars chassis with some major updates by Gary Naughton Race Cars. Under the hood is a Bob Hartsock-built 541 cubic inch BBC that uses a 10.2 deck New Century block as its base, with AJPE solid billet heads on top. A pair of 91mm Precision Turbo Pro Mod turbos feed boost into the custom Projay billet throttle body, elbow, and Brodix Sonny’s BBC intake, while a BigStuff3 commands the 16 Precision 225 pound, and eight 550 pound injectors.
Behind the billet engine is a Jim Hostler-built TH400 transmission, ProTorque converter, and Mark Williams rearend. Putting the power down to the track is a set of Santhuff rear double adjustable shocks, along with other goodies from Mark Williams.
Anderson is trying to get the car ready for a debut at the Yellow Bullet Nationals, and then will compete in the Strange Engineering Outlaw Street Carl Shootout Series.
Anderson has received a lot of help getting this sexy Saleen rolling. “All of this would not be possible without help from my right hand man, Lou Cerminaro, Will Jimenez and Jay Mejias at Projay, Vinny DiPrima at Action Powder Coatings, and Steve Crisafulli, who did all of the finishing work and wiring.”
