Let’s face it, if cranking off sub five-second passes at the drag strip was easy, everybody would be doing it as often as possible. But it’s not. Trying to run that quick in a truck that’s about as aerodynamic as a brick building is even tougher, but fan favorite Bobby Dodrill and his popular 1976 four-wheel drive GMC named ‘Miss Misery’ have been giving it a shot for a while and will be hitting the strip again soon.

Dodrill’s  truck was very well know from its Outlaw Racing Street Car Association (ORSCA) days where it competed in the Outlaw 10.5 class and was running in the 4.90’s in four-wheel drive mode. The layoff from racing for Dodrill was caused by a pretty bad crash in April of 2011 that left his Miss Misery pickup with some pretty nasty battle wounds.

Now, the blown truck is set to make a comeback in a big way, with a boatload of improvements all made by Dodrill.

“We’ve given the truck a longer wheel-base, lowered the center of gravity, cut out over 250 pounds, and redesigned front the drive system. As well, we’ve added a new C-rotor supercharger, went from a single five-inch exhaust to zoomies, added radials all the way around, and worked on the aero package,” explains Dodrill about the improvements to the truck.

All of these new additions will go with Miss Misery’s trademark 543 cubic inch Keith Black wedge-headed motor topped with the aforementioned PSI C-rotor supercharger, and should help push the truck even deeper into the four-second zone. Dodrill’s plan is to get some testing in and then bring the truck back out at the World Street Nationals
