Nine months ago, popular west coast Outlaw 10.5 racer Rick Snavely was injured in a spectacular crash at the Street Car Super Nationals in Las Vegas aboard his Bothwell Motorsports Pontiac GTO. After recovering from his injuries at his California home, Snavely returned to work 57 days after the accident, and in the ensuing months, began putting a plan in place for his return to competitive racing.
This weekend at the NMCA West Coast Shootout at the fabled Pomona Raceway, all of the personal trials and tribulations that followed that difficult day in Las Vegas will be forgotten as Snavely steps back behind the wheel for the first time in official competition.
Snavely and the Bothwell Motorsports crew put together a sponsorship agreement earlier this year with Scott and Terri Rakestraw of Turbos Direct to carry the company banner for the remainder of the 2012 and 2013 seasons. Joining the arsenal that includes the familiar 2005 Ford Mustang driven by Rich Zehring for much of last season will be a brand new 1969 Camaro that’s currently under construction to replace the destroyed GTO that will make it’s debut at a later time.
Snavely and Zehring will eventually formulate three-car effort under the Bothwell banner for NMCA West and PSCA competition out on the left coast.
