Reigning ORSCA Limited Street champ Eric Dillard made his debut of 2010 at the February ORTC race in Georgia, but things didn’t go as well as the team had hoped when their intercooler grenaded leaving a lot of the interior panels, tubs and glass tarnished. While the team surely could’ve slapped in a new intercooler and made some quick fixes here and there to get the car back out quickly, car owner Todd Berry wanted to have a bulletproof intercooler that would never fail them again, and quickly got his CNC shop working on an all-new billet intercooler for their twin turbo ‘Stang.
It’s been a long work in progress, but we finally get our first glimpse of the finished product via Todd’s post on Yellow Bullet.
Unlike normal sheet metal intercoolers, this intercooler is constructed of nearly indestructible .125″ thick billet aluminum. The excessive strength of the intercooler adds a bit of weight to the setup, but Todd says he’s willing to add a couple pounds if it means he’ll never blow an intercooler to pieces again. This intercooler is already mounted up and ready to go installed on their car, and rumor has it that Amanda Long is also using one of Todd’s new intercoolers with their new supercharged combo.
While no official price has been released, Todd says it’ll be comparable in price to other similar units, and will be available for purchase through Proline Race Engines with a few custom personalized options, including a company or team’s name and/or logo. Not only will this intercooler be safer than others, Todd notes that the real downfall of other units is that the sheet metal is constantly expanding and contracting until eventually the welds will fail. Todd has also put a couple of these up as prizes for ORTC’s October event.
