Sneak Peek: Tony Schumacher to Honor our Nation’s Heroes in Pomona

Tony Schumacher is no stranger to entering the Finals at Pomona with a chance to win the championship. For the driver of the U.S. Army Racing Top Fuel dragster, this Sunday presents a rare opportunity to win the title on a holiday dedicated to those who served our country. To honor this Nation’s heroes and their families on Veterans Day, Don Schumacher Racing is teaming up with Oakley and the Infinite Hero Foundation and will run a special scheme on the seven-time NHRA champion’s dragster.

The mission of the Infinite Hero Foundation is to combat the most difficult front line issues – mental and physical – facing returning military heroes and their families. The foundation’s name was inspired by the conviction that the sacrifices of heroes should always be remembered. The emblem which will proudly be displayed on Tony’s dragster incorporates the color purple to honor those who have been wounded in battle, the Greek cross to signify aid, and the infinity symbol to represent Infinite Hero’s conviction that the sacrifices of heroes should always be remembered.

Because of Antron Brown’s first round loss and Tony’s runner-up finish at Las Vegas, the Sarge was able to slice Antron’s lead to just 65 points entering the final race of the year. Tony was in a similar position entering the finals back in 2007 and he overcame a 68 point deficit to take home the title. Similar to 2007, Tony will need an early loss by the points leader in order to keep his title hopes alive but he is not wishing bad luck on anyone. “I always wanted the ball in my hands for the last shot, and I always wanted to sit in a seat and have to win to be the champ, not hope someone else loses,” Schumacher said. “And I think Antron is in a really good spot right now. He’s ahead of us, but he’s not that kind of guy. He does not want to have to watch someone lose; he wants to close the deal, just like we do. At the awards banquet, we all want to be on that stage.”
