It was a popular story when it was first unveiled as a mostly complete race car, and it’s been the talk of the Pro Modified world this week after it finally hit the race track for testing. “It” of course is none other than Troy Coughlin’s brand spankin’ new C6 Chevrolet Corvette that Coughlin is expected to debut on the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by ProCare Rx in the near future. It’s turbocharged and a soon-to-be new addition to the JEG’S team, as it powers out of Roger Burgess’ R2B2 Race Cars facility in Lawrenceville, Georgia, where it’s been under the watchful eye of chassis man Jim Geese.

The new Team JEG’S Corvette is powered by another monster big block out of the Proline Racing shop with a pair of class-required 88mm turbochcargers. Easy to spot in the JEG’S distinctive yellow paint, the C6 is equipped with a unique clear bubble placed over the intake manifold to provide a glimpse inside.

Troy has been a racing machine since he made captured his first professional victory in Pro Stock in 2001 at Reading, Pennsylvania, seven years after he made his Pro Stock start in 1994. If there were ever a first family of drag racing, the Coughlin’s would be a leading candidate, with Jeg Coughlin Sr. at the helm of the well-known family of drivers that includes sons Troy, Jeg Jr., John, and Mike. Troy makes his mark with his perseverance and bold style — never more evident than the incredible list of race cars he’s campaigned in recent seasons. Troy finished 12th in the 2011 Pro Mod standings and raced most of the season with his well-known small block GTO owned by the Hairston family. The new C6 Corvette, like Troy’s current ’68 Camaro, should be a force to be reckoned with right out of the gate. Troy and tuner Steve Petty put some shakedown laps on the new ride earlier this week in Las Vegas, lending a hint that it might debut at next weekend’s Big “O” Tires Nationals. Some chatter has Troy committed to attending the upcoming Street Car Super Nationals in Las Vegas as well.

The SCSN posted a video of Troy on a testing lap this week on their Facebook page, which you can view here.
