The thermo-nuclear war to become the quickest and fastest import in the world saw another bomb dropped recently by Víctor Flores in the Zoian and Team New Generation Lexus. Just a month ago Flores piloted the 2JZ-powered missile to the title of quickest import in North America with a booming 6.05 at 235 mph. In a test session at South Georgia Motorsports Park last week, the Team New Generation machine nearly took both ends of the record and set the stage for what could be an epic 2015 for the import racing world.
The current import record is still held by EKanoo Racing and their incredible Supra that wears a pair of 10.5 slicks and has been a 6.04 at 232 mph. That record was set at the end of November at Bahrain International Circuit with Gary White wheeling the 2JZ-powered, Titan-built race car.
Trying to become the first import to break the five second barrier is the next big record to fall in drag racing, and Flores, along with his team, are throwing everything they can at their Lexus to get there. At SGMP with a huge tune-up in his hot rod, Flores ran a 6.049 at 247 mph, falling only a few thousandths short of becoming the quickest import in the world, and five hundredths away from the five second zone.
But the 247 mph trap speed was more than enough to become the fastest import in the world and shows the potential of the New Generation Lexus to crack into the five second zone. It also displays just how staggering these little motors are. Speed is typically indecisive of horsepower, and this little inline-six is making enough steam to run with the big block nitrous, turbo, and blower cars. For those still detesting import vehicles, at some point you have to take off the gloves and give credit where credit is due.
