The Legendary Orlando World Street Nationals Returns

[1]

Less than a month ago, Lakeland Dragstrip owner Ozzy Moya came to the rescue of Florida drag racers and fans – and honestly, drag racing followers everywhere – when he struck a deal to acquire the assets of the Orlando Speedworld Dragway from longtime promoter and track operator Carl Weisinger. Of course, once the fate of the iconic racing facility was no longer in question, the first thing many people wanted to know was whether Moya would resurrect the legendary Real World Street Nationals that once made the 1/4 mile strip an hour west of Orlando an international destination for one epic weekend every fall.

And the answer to that is a resounding YES.

Moya confirmed via the internet this week that the event would be making a triumphant return, and on Monday, created a Facebook page [2] to promote the return of the new World Street Car Nationals that’s scheduled to take place the weekend of November 8-10. The originally scheduled date of October 25-27, which is the long-standing traditional date of the Street Nationals and the one that Moya preferred to utilize, was changed on Tuesday to avoid conflict with the Outlaw Drag Racing Championship that’s already planned to occur on that weekend a short drive away at the Bradenton Motorsports Park. The new race date in November does coincide with the popular Street Car Super Nationals in Las Vegas, but with more than 2,300 miles separating the two events, conflicts are likely to be minimal.

Moya has not yet released any details on the new World Street Car Nationals in terms of classes, payouts, or race distances (1/4 or 1/8), but that information is expected to take shape in the near future so racers can make plans to attend.
