What do you think of when you hear the term station wagon? If you think old-school family car, you’re in good company. However, there are exceptions to this general rule and we seem to have found one that might just put your muscle car to shame.
I know- it’s a hard thing to hear, that your beloved muscle car could be beat by a station wagon. However, the ‘63 Tempest Station Wagon we found, that will be making its way to the Dallas Mecum auction in October, is no grocery getter.
This Tempest is equipped with a 434cui engine that boasts 785hp. The engine is matted to an automatic transmission, making this racing machine consistent. And yes, this Tempest has been raced. It has a roll cage, wheelie bars and nitrous system. At peak performance, this car ran a 9.93-second quarter mile with a trap speed of 135mph.
As if a high-performance station wagon wasn’t impressive enough, this car is the only 2 door Tempest Wagon in the world. Whoever put the time and work into this wagon was definitely serious about their project. The restoration and build of this wagon cost $186,000 and is documented with receipts.
We aren’t the only ones who’ve taken notice of this station wagon. In fact, it was featured in the magazine, Pontiac Enthusiasts and was pictured in the High Performance Pontiac magazine.
The best part of station wagon is that it could be yours! It is set to be auctioned off at the Mecum auction in Dallas, Texas on October 8th. Be sure to be at the auction shortly before 3:00 that day if you’re interested in bidding because the Tempest Wagon is set to cross the auction block at 2:55p.m. We hope to see this insane station wagon at race events in the future!
