It’s been a while since Tim McAmis left the internet literally laughing-out-loud with his deadpan form of comedy regarding some of drag racing’s more outlandish topics, but the Missouri chassis builder is at it again, this time taking aim at what he says is the over-the-top automation of driving a modern Pro Modified car.

McAmis, one of Pro Modified’s original cast of superstars, who won the first-ever IHRA Pro Modified world championship, has been there and done that, watching fast doorslammer racing morph before his very eyes — his own world-renowned operation playing a signified role itself in the advancement of Pro Mod racing. But McAmis takes issue with the degree to which modern electronics have simplified the role of the driver in this day and age, and the NHRA’s proposal to allow lock-up torque converters — which could effectively render the remaining old-school clutch cars extinct — was what compelled him to climb back on his proverbial soapbox this week and entertain us all. Traction control devices, bump boxes, torque converter drives…no one is safe in this one.
