The top challengers in the Outlaw 10.5 category have been hammering away at what remains of the four-second zone in recent seasons as they’ve inched closer and closer to that magical three-second mark in the eighth mile that will mark the first of what is likely to be the two remaining major milestones in the class (the fives in the quarter mile being the other). That barrier came crashing down today — unofficially at this point anyway — when doorslammer terror Todd Tutterow blasted his way to a 3.99-second elapsed time at just 191 mph while testing Al-Anabi Racing’s C6 Corvette at the Qatar Race Club in Doha, Qatar while much of the American public was still fast asleep early this morning.

Tutterow was 1.01 to sixty feet and 2.70 to the 330 foot clocks on the landmark run that came in the Al-Anabi Corvette that’s been switched from the nitrous combo it had when it ran here in the states to a screw blower like that of Northeast Outlaw 1.5 kingpins Chuck Ulsch and Richard Sexton.

Tim Lynch, the undisputed king of the 10.5W-clad category — who also happens to be competing over in Qatar in a Mustang operated by Q80 Racing — had lowered the boom to a mightily impressive 4.02 this fall, when he clicked the number off in testing and again at the Shakedown Nationals in Englishtown in October.

Because Tutterow’s number came in testing, there’s sure to be some argument as to the validity of the run, but nevertheless, the early numbers show there’s plenty of potential to go that quick or even quicker, and with several rounds remaining in the Arabian Drag Racing League’s winter schedule, King Tut has plenty more opportunities to get it done in competition.
