Ultra Assassin: Shawn Pevlor Resets The Ultra Street Class Record

You’ll be hard pressed to find a team in small tire racing that works harder than Shawn Pevlor and his crew. Most heads-up racers find it difficult to run one class, but Pevlor has run three different classes this year, with three different sets of rules, and been successful in each. This past weekend he smashed the Ultra Street record during the Shakedown At The Summit, but he plans to do a whole lot more before the year is out.

During the course of this racing season, Pevlor has competed in MX235, Ultra Street, and Nitrous-X, setting records in each of those classes. At the Shakedown, Pevlor reset the Ultra Street record with a wicked 4.76-second pass at 148 mph.

“It’s a lot of hard work and dedication to run all of these classes. We’re constantly tweaking the chassis, always keeping the engine fresh at BES, and putting in a lot of hours. It takes a lot to be fast at this level, so every time we switch into a different class trim we change the ride height, spring rate, converter, and gears,” Pevlor says.

When Pevlor says a lot of hours, he isn’t joking at all. During the season he puts in over 150 passes on the Mustang in the various classes it can run … often at the same race. To make all that happen, Pevlor makes sure his racecar is in tip-top shape with quality parts. “We have surrounded ourselves with good people like BES, RPM Transmissions, and Menscer Motorsports to help us be successful,” Pevlor explains.

The rest of 2016 and beyond is going to be packed full of racing for Pevlor, as he chases more victories and series championships.

“We’re going to No Mercy to run Nitrous-X and hopefully win the series title there. We also will be going to Holly Springs later this year to try and get that first MX235 win as well.”

Pevlor dropped a bombshell that could make 2017 a very interesting racing season in the small-tire world, as well. “Right now there’s a possibility I’ll have an X275 car for next year. It will have a 20 degree high-port Ford motor that Kevin Neal will be doing a souped-up Nitrous Express system on as the power adder,” Pevlor says.

Running one of the most grueling schedules in heads-up racing hasn’t been a problem for Pevlor, and it looks like he will continue his winning ways in 2016, and beyond in whatever class he buys a tech card for.
