Video: Comp Eliminator Racers Get Tangled Up In Chicago

[1]

A pair of Competition Eliminator racers had a rather forgettable weekend at the Fallen Patriots NHRA Route 66 Nationals this weekend in Joliet, Illinois after getting tangled up in a high-speed accident during the opening round of eliminations.

Mount Plymouth, Florida racer Jenny Treadwell was paired up with Elmer, New Jersey’s Lee Zane in a matchup of Competition Eliminator veterans in Friday’s opening stanza at the Route 66 Raceway when a rear axle on Treadwell’s inline six-cylinder powered, E/Econo Dragster entry reportedly broke after the finish line, sending her careening out of control. Treadwell’s dragster, with the left rear wheel and tire appearing to be locked up, turned left into the path of Zane’s inline four-banger H/Econo Altered. Both cars rotated around at speed—Treadwell’s dragster turning over twice while Zane’s narrow and short wheelbase machine, by a stroke of luck, remained upright.

Correction an axle broke and locked up the rear wheels. Still very sad!! just Glad you are ok Lee Zane and Jenni treadwell..

Both drivers were checked out by on-site emergency personnel and released without any injuries. Unfortunately for Treadwell, she was to be the Division 2 representative in Saturday’s JEGS Allstars battle, and with the chassis of her dragster, at best, in need of a front-half replacement, was forced to miss the special race-within-a-race that she’d worked for the last 12 months to earn her way into.
