Video: COPO Number 27 Delivery Experience

If you could ever count yourself among the lucky few who call themselves a COPO Camaro owner, how would you celebrate? No doubt you’d take plenty of pictures when you picked up the car, and maybe even a video like LJ Treffer did when he took delivery of COPO #27 from the COPO Build Facility in Oxford, Michigan. But like any red-blooded Chevy fan, you know you’d probably want to boil the hides to commemorate the occasion – also just like Treffer.

We recently talked with Treffer about his COPO pick-up experience, and this is what he had to say:

“When I got to Oxford I met Rich Rinke and talked cars with him for a while, and he took me for a tour through the facility. He told me ‘No pictures and no cameras!’, and I obliged and turned my phone off and put it in my pocket. After completing the tour I sat back down with him in the lobby he pulls out a Simpson Racing box and presents me with a COPO Racing jacket with #27 on it. It was a great experience to say the least!”

“Finally the grand moment arrived when they fired up COPO #27’s supercharged 327! I took a bunch of pics and video while Rich pulled the beast out of the plant and parked it over by the car trailer. He checked a few things out and asked me if I’m ready to make a hit! I look at him like, ‘Really?’ He says, ‘Yeah – It’s your car, roll the tires over for us!’ Rich opened the door and told me to go ahead, and I just couldn’t resist.”You can see the results in the video above. The new COPOs will be an important part of Chevrolet history, and all the owners and race teams are now a part of this great car’s heritage. Valuable part of history or not, we’d have jumped at the chance to lay down a fat burnout too.  For more info on the COPO Camaro, check out Chevrolet Performance website.

The #27 COPO is sponsored by T&T Performance out of Frederick, MD.
