Photos of David DeMarco’s screw-blown Buick have been making the rounds since he revealed his plans to swap to the potent combination for 2015, but little has been out there in the form of video or numbers. Of course, with the combo being brand new, that’s understandable. Today, though, all of that changes. Hans Pierre Jr. of Free Life Films was there to capture THIS!
David and his crew made the haul from snowy Massachusetts to Bradenton, Florida, where he joined several other teams in pre-race testing for this weekend’s U.S. Street Nationals. He promptly blasted to an impressive 4.18 pass at 184 mph. While that’s not exactly record-shattering, it’s only the second time down the track with a completely new, untested engine – in this case, a 526-inch Hemi – on 315 Mickey Thompson radials. Needless to say, DeMarco’s 4.18 is among the quickest “new combo shakedown” passes in radial history!
With a couple more days of testing before qualifying commences on Friday, it seems likely that we will see quicker ET’s out of the torque monster Grand National. As it stands, the quickest blown radial car is Enzo Pecchini who drove his ProCharged Mustang to a 4.13 at SGMP this past September at super-sized radial event No Mercy 5, and if memory serves, this run puts DeMarco in the top spot for roots-style blower cars, just edging out long-time blower badass Kenny Hubbard who has been as quick as 4.21 in his Camaro.
Check back for updates throughout the week, plus our Same Day Coverage team will be providing updates throughout the weekend. How quick do you guys think David will be able to go in his wicked blown Buick?
***UPDATE*** While waiting on the video from the 4.18 pass, DeMarco returned to the lanes and blasted off a 4.16 to prove the 4.18 was certainly no fluke! It’s looking like this may be a breakout year for the blower cars in Radial Racing’s premiere class.
