Video: Derek Lewis Rides Out A Massive Wheelstand

Lets face it – everyone loves a great wheelstand. Even the men and women behind the wheel who are busting up their bumpers and smashing oil pans get a kick out of it once they clean out their pants. In fact, we are so mesmerized by a race car dragging the bumper for inordinate amounts of time, that we have events solely dedicated to the destruction of race cars in pursuit of that awe-inspiring monster wheelstand.

This massive and expensive wheelstand comes to us from True Street racer Derek Lewis, behind the wheel of his Big Block 1970 Nova running on 275 Drag Radials. When the tree drops, the Mustang in the near lane performs an almost picture perfect launch with the wheels just a couple feet in the air and setting back down. Lewis, however…well, you just might want to take a picture. Lewis drags the bumper out clear to the 330-foot marker, where it unloads the right side tires and turns the car immediately hard left. Derek actually take great evasive action to keep the car from turning on its side and rolling, but definitely busted up an oil pan and likely some other components in the front end as well upon crashing back to earth in a shower of sparks on two wheels. While we hate to see anyone tear up their stuff, it sure is entertaining and we always appreciate some great footage such as this.
