Video: Former Pro Mod Ace Quain Stott Makes Epic Save In His Gasser

Quain Stott became a household name for Pro Modified fans back in the late 90’s as he rose from a hopeful-to-qualify competitor to eventual IHRA Pro Mod World Champion. He’s since taken a step away from Pro Mod action and found a new way to get his adrenaline fix on the dragstrip: with a died-in-the-wool, old school Gasser!

Stott campaigns the gorgeous nostalgia Willys you see  above in the South East Gassers series, which recently joined the PDRA at it’s tour stop at the famed Rockingham Dragway, where he took the straight-axle Gasser for a wild ride during the second round of qualifying.

quain1Following a bit of a hairy burnout in which the straight-axle Gasser gave Stott a preview of what was to come, Quain staged alongside his nephew, Donovan, to battle for family bragging rights. After the tree drops, Donovan’s Anglia launches on a straight journey down the tarmac while Uncle Quain was locked in a battle with both gravity and uneven traction for control of his Willys.

Quain’s gorgeous ride launched with both wheels high in the air and began to drive to the right. You can visibly see the wheels turned to the left as Quain fought to keep the car off the wall, but the front end lifted again, rendering his steering input useless. As the nose bounced yet again, the elder Stott realized the situation was about to get a whole lot worse and made the decision to lift, but the fun wasn’t over yet.

When Stott lifted with the wheels cranked to the left, the car grabbed and shot across his lane, but his instincts kicked in immediately and allowed him to safely correct and keep the car both upright and off the Rockingham retaining walls. While nephew Donovan raced into the night, Quain coasted casually down the track, likely content that his ride was intact. Though Donovan got the better of him on this pass, the racing kin are likely to cross paths again in the future, and it’s a safe bet that Uncle Quain will be looking to show his nephew who’s boss!
