Video: Grudge Racer Carries The Wheels Nearly A Full 1/8-Mile!

As you may likely be able to concur having seen many of the videos we’ve shared here on Dragzine lately, last week’s No Guts No Glory grudge race in Orlando was one event we probably should’ve all had on our calendars. From monster wheelstands to wheels smacking the back of the car they came off of, the race seemed to have a little bit of everything. But this particular run? This one ranks right up there with the wildest things we’ve seen in years.

biz1Grudge racing, as you may be aware, is entirely about getting to the finish stripe first, at any and all costs. There is no qualifying, there are no championship points, and no time to shake your combination down. Every race has cash on the line — sometimes a LOT of cash — and whether you’re on fire or upside down, you find some way to the stripe before the other guy. Some might call it the purest form of drag racing there is, where it’s go-for-broke or stay home, but the very nature of grudge racing is what leads to wild scenes like this one captured by Hans at Free Life Films.

The Fox body Mustang is the near lane, running against P.R. Pete’s Chevy Camaro, stands right up on the bumper on the tacky Orando Speed World starting line and finally slams back to earth around the 200 foot mark. But the driver, who’s more concerned with the money than whether there are parts on the ground or a hole in the oil pan, puts the hammer back down into a nearby picture-perfect wheelstand with the nose in the air for more than 330 feet.

We say near picture-perfect, because the Fox was in no way headed in a straight trajectory, instead collecting the eighth-mile blocks and crossing over into the opposing lane. That’s were it got interesting once again, as the driver wrestled the car back into its own lane at a pretty high rate of speed, thus getting all kinds of loose. But while the driver — who did win the race fair and square — was soiling his driving suit, the crowd back at the starting line was going wild over what they’d just witnessed.

Should the driver have lifted to keep the car in his lane? Probably. Is such a thing in any grudge racers’ DNA? Absolutely not.
