Just how literal can you take the term “all motor”? Well, a couple of racers in Argentina took it to the extreme, building race cars that are, by and large, little more than an engine, a seat, and four wheels.
It’s one of those “when you see it….” type of videos. Driver Alajendro Mendoza has a camera strapped to his helmet, providing a first-person view from inside his 4-cylinder-equipped Fiat 147. But after he does the burnout and turns his head to back up to the starting line, you get a glimpse at, well….nothing.
Mendoza and his Damonte Racing team have constructed the Fiat to be as light as physically possible, and because the front wheel drive car doesn’t require a whole lot beyond the dash and the drivers seat, they’ve simply done away with it. There’s a seat, a roll cage, and really nothing else, as the floor, the rear hatch, bumpers, and all have been cut away to reduce weight. All that remains behind Mendoza is a set of what appear to be some beefy bicycle wheels attached to the frame.
Information on the engine is scarce, but from what we can gather, it has an inline four-banger with mechanical fuel injection and at least a four-speed with a LONG shifter throw to it. Does it look like fun? It’s got an engine and wheels so of course it does. Is it safe? Well, that’s up for debate.
And, as you can see by the images and videos, Mendoza’s car isn’t the only car like this…there are at least a handful of them and likely many others out there.
