Video: Mo Makki’s Street Driven, 8-Second S550 Mustang

When Ford released the latest iteration of the Mustang it quickly acquired praise for its fresh style and performance potential. The S550 platform is extraordinarily potent, with excellent handling and ample power potential from the Coyote-based engine. Mo Makki is a Mustang lover who saw the possibilities of this 2015 Mustang, and hooked up with JPC Performance to create an 8-second ride on the IRS suspension.

There were many aspects of his new Mustang that Makki liked, but being a racer at heart he wanted more power. “Ford did an awesome job on the S550 … it’s my favorite Mustang so far. I love the way it handles and the way it drive,” Makki says. To get the rip he wanted, Makki sent the Mustang to Eric Holliday and the guys at JPC. The block was sleeved block with billet I-beams and got a set of custom Diamond Pistons. ARP head studs, Cometic gaskets, billet oil pump gears and JPC valve springs round out the engine modifications.

“We used this car to design and develop our single-turbo kit for the S550. We wanted to see what the kit was capable of doing on the street and strip,” Holliday says. To make the boost, JPC used a Precision turbo along with a TurboSmart wastegate and blowoff valve. Putting the power down is a Rossler TH400, G-Force Performance Engineering 9-inch with upgraded axles and a full BMR Suspension package.  This effective combination pushed the Mustang to a booming 8.08-second elapsed time at over 168 mph using an IRS suspension.

Even with these heavy-duty upgrades, JPC kept the car entirely street legal — every factory option was left in the car and still works, from the navigation to the cruise control. Makki is planning to get more heavily involved in racing next season with the red rocket, including mixing it up in the NMRA and even some half-mile events.
