Racers aren’t often ones to leave anything alone in the quest to go quicker and faster even when their car is already breaking records, and that’s exactly what the team at PROSPEED (formerly D3 Engineering) did when they made some some changes to the Gen V Viper they built. At the 2017 Viper Nationals PROSPEED brought out the Gen V Viper they set the previous record with, but this time it had a stock six-speed transmission and a bit more power. The car was able to reset the six-speed Gen V Viper record with a stock engine by running a low nine-second pass, and then drive 60 miles home after the run in full street trim.

The PROSPEED Viper is equipped with their production ProCharger F-1X supercharger system that’s capable of making 1,000 horsepower to the tires. Behind the motor is a Mantic triple-disc clutch that helps transfer the power to the six-speed transmission. To spice things up a bit PROSPEED added a Nitrous Outlet plate kit to the snake to give it some extra power. All of the fueling on the car comes from a custom triple-pump system, while a MoTec Systems USA EMS controls the engine functions.

Don’t think for one second that this is a gutted racecar that gets tailored to the track — it still sees plenty of street time. PROSPEED’s Evan Davis drove the Viper 120 miles round-trip to Royal Purple Raceway so he could beat on it at this event. The car weighs in at a hefty 3,650 pounds with the car still maintaining all the factory powered options, both seats, full stereo, and even windshield wipers. This video from PROSPEED shows the Viper laying down the six-speed, stock engine record with a stout 9.70-second pass at over 150 mph on boost only; then they turn the giggle juice on and run a blistering 9.35 at almost 158 mph — not bad at all for a full-weight street car that’s driven to and from the track!
