Video: Paul Mouhayet Makes Fastest Doorslammer Pass In History!

Australian drag racing star Paul Mouhayet and the Moits Racing team only make it stateside a couple of times a year to campaign their Tim McAmis Race Cars-built, ProLine-powered Ford Mustang, and so when they do, virtually all thoughts of caution and wear and tear on the race car are thrown to the wind in the name of making a splash.

DSC_7485Mouhayet and company made the long trek from the other side of the globe to take part in the Street Car Super Nationals Anarchy at the Arch in St. Louis, and they did so with breaking records on their minds. Last fall, Mouhayet became the fastest an on earth in a doorslammer at the SCSN event in Las Vegas, going 273.39 mph blast. This time around, they wanted 275.

Although event promoter Mel Roth made the tough but necessary decision to move the Outlaw Pro Mod category to an 1/8-mile race distance, Mouhayet was still given the opportunity to make some full pulls, and with the tuning wisdom of Steve Petty as their disposal, the Moits team hot-lapped their race car all weekend long in their quest for a 275 mph terminal speed.

DSC_4720Mouhayet opened the weekend with a stellar 5.66-second, 266 mph hit, but on Friday, those numbers were improved upon considerably, as he first topped 270 mph before making history later that evening with a scorching pass of 5.598-seconds at 274.33 mph. On the run, Mouhayet went 1.004 to 60 feet, 2.640 to 330 feet, 3.814 at 215.31 mph to the 1/8-mile, and 4.782 to 1,000 feet. The Moits Mustang made a number of further attempts on Saturday evening, but succumbed to tire shake and walking out of the groove and was unable to improve upon the 274.

According to Mouhayet, they’ll be returning in the fall for the Las Vegas event, with the combination focused on elapsed time rather than speed in their mission to break into the 5.40s.
