At first glance, this thing is awesome. The second and third looks confirm it. We’ve always been in awe of remote-control cars — keeping them moving in a straight line is simple, but turning them (and keeping them under control) is a task that’s not so simple. In fact, we had one back in the day. Can’t remember the model, but it was chock-full of batteries and coilover shocks and little plastic parts that would break at the slightest whiff of an uneven road surface.
This one, though — it’s a quarter-scale car with a full roll cage and a massive set of slicks and is raced on a real quarter-scale track, complete with timing equipment and a full-on Christmas tree. While the engine is only 90ccs, the insane amount of noise it exhibits during the burnout rivals that of your favorite neighbor’s most insane weedwhacker — we all know that sound.
This racer appears to have a hell of a tuneup in it as the engine burbles and pops any time it’s at idle, while at full song it simply screams. Not only that, but the owner makes sure to get those slicks nice and hot before making a pass, so you get to hear full-throttle on numerous occasions.
On a quarter-scale dragstrip (330 feet) the car covers the distance in 4.76 seconds at 72.57 MPH. While this isn’t a big number for a full-size vehicle, knocked down to scale it’s an intense ride. The car simply hooks and goes, disappearing into the horizon. Check it out!
