Bart Tobener has been a regular face on the NMRA trail over the years in the EFI Renegade category, and this season the folks at SCT Performance joined forces with the Georgia native to back his racing efforts, providing added resources to go out and compete in the always tough Renegade class. and Tobener has delivered, as he currently sits second in points behind runaway leader Brian Mitchell despite missing the Atco, New Jersey race with the points-paying portion of the season just over the halfway point.
At the season-opening NITTO Tire NMRA Spring Break Shootout down in Bradenton, Fla., Tobener strapped a camera aboard his new-look, flamed SCT Performance ’93 Mustang for a ride-along video that would be prominently displayed on the SCT homepage. Tobener opened the season on a high note there, qualifying #1 with a great 8.518 in his Ford Modular powered, Vortech supercharger-equipped Fox body and made it all the way to the final round, where he had troubles and slowed while Mitchell drove to the win.
Tobener followed that showing up with a #1 qualifying effort in Atlanta and reached the semifinals before bowing out on a redlight against Alton Clements. Tobener struggled at the most recent event in Joliet, qualifying a disappointing sixth in the stout Renegade field and falling in the opening stanza to Chad Almandinger, but you don’t get to second in points on a fluke, and the SCT Performance team will certainly be back when the NMRA tour heads to milan, Mich. later this month.
